This is a lovely Traditional Celtic (Scottish) melody. Also spelled "Rhu Vaternish." The basic low melody that starts and ends the piece was arranged by Ruth Barrett; the high melody part and the two different counter-melodies that are the center part of the piece were arranged by Cyntia Smith. This tune is commonly played as a highland bagpipe tune, but here it's given a much more delicate treatment. You can hear how lovely these parts sound together on Cyntia and Ruth's album called "A Dulcimer Harvest." I'm playing an Aeolus dulcimer built by Dale Foye ( www.aeolusmusic.com ).
Lovely.
Thank you so much Carrie!!!
Thank you so much Dewey and James!
James, I'm on C-G-C in this one.
Guy a very sensitive rendition of a song frequently piped. I enjoy pipes ok, but some haunting melodies are partially masked by the drone when piped. They come across clearly when rendered on the dulcimer. Beautiful job, Guy. Thank you for sharing it with us.Deweythe Dewey Dulcimer System
oh, what are you tuned to for this?
Just getting around to watching this Guy. Great as always
Thank you so much, Mary!
Thank you so much Helen. I appreciate you listening and commenting!
Thank you so much Patty, that's very kind of you!
Guy, this is very lovely. You post some great tunes and I look forward to them
Thank you so much folkfan! Yes, it's very different listening to this tune played on highland pipes! It's also very beautiful when the different counter melodies that Cyntia wrote are played together with 2 dulcimers.
can't edit a comment. That should be a "full band of Highland War Pipes".
Guy, That was lovely. I've never heard Leaving Rhu Vaternish on the dulcimer before, only the pipes. You capture the sadness I've always associated with the tune, but have added a gentle touch to it that a full band Highland War Pipes never seem to give it.
Thank you John!!
Very musically done!
Thanks Dusty!
Very pretty.
Thank you Benjamin!
Aw thank you so much, Lesley. That's such a kind thing to say!!!
A very nice tune.
