@Ken The part is designed to support not only the top but also absorb the tension of the strings.
And it works. There are only a few zithers that have such a support.
Very nice work. That is a good looking Hummel. I appreciate see the interior. The piece that runs parallel to the sides with the holes in it is interesting. Is that there to help support the top?
