@Strumelia The stems are good, too! There are, of course, many ways to use the "mushrooms". One of my favorites is to cut the morels into small pieces, sautee them in butter in a large skillet then add cooked pasta and fold all the mess together. Though I don't add any good hard cheese grated on top, you could do that, too.
Robin, I'm curious- do the stems taste really good too, or is it only the tops that are eaten?
(when I make soups with fresh shitake, I often discard a good part of of the stems that are too woody to be enjoyable.)
@Strumelia For the price hunters fetch by selling to high-end restaurants, a plane ticket to eat some for free might not seem as far-fetched as it sounds. (Can't say that I know a per-pound price yet am sure they're not cheap.)
@Cindy-Stammich Mark & I have had morels four times already this Spring so a couple of these big ones are going to my mom today and the rest I may dry. Dried, they keep well in a glass jar with the lid on tight.
(looking up air flights that could get me to your house in time for dinner)....
