This on a 10-string kantele built from a Musicmakers kit by Lynn Austin. It seems many folks I know are really struggling this winter, and wanted to send thi...
Bob thanks, I've been admiring your lovely dulcimers. This was made for me from a Music Maker's kit. Very popular are the 5 string ones in Finland. Here's some really lovely playing of the kantele, the real deal. I'd love to see you make these...trying to remember what is all the rage now - it's possibly a 12 string? Enjoy this video - wait for the beautiful song...
Cynthia- Beautiful sound! I never knew of these instruments until you shared this lovely, peaceful tune. I looked up a"kantele" and saw what they look like and read of their history. I was surprised that some do not have a bridge, like a harp. Very ancient instrument as well. Very cool. Thanks!
Aw thanks Lisa, I sure appreciate that. Maybe time will bring me back around to it again soon. And yes, Greta was always my most appreciative audiance ever. Her favorite was Precioius Lord - she just melted when I started singing that one
I finally figured this out and yes I cheated, " nein, absolut nicht, Du musst es selbst sprechen lernen." LOL Well, another language to try to learn. That just may keep my brain from getting too rusty
Cynthia, on Youtube there are some recordings of "Eugene Dawson and the Sacred Harp Singers". Is this the type of harp singing you do? Below is a link.
Ken if you were to join a shape note singers group you'd have a ball. It's way more fun to do than to listen to. And frankly, I like to hear the melodies played with a simple accompaniment rather than 4 part harmony. and Patty, nein, absolut nicht, Du musst es selbst sprechen lernen. Did it count, lol.
Many years ago I bought a CD called "Harp of a Thousand Strings". A church choir doing hymns in that style. I got it because I have never heard anything like it. It reminded be of a bunch of people running down the road at 100 mph and hoping they don't run into anything...
Thanks Robin. I miss years sometimes too. It's nice to be back though.
Cynthia, this is wonderful! I was swamped in '17 so missed this back then. . . Glad to have seen it today!

You've got a real talent with this lovely instrument, Cynthia. I love what you did with this hymn.
I can tell that Greta was as divinely mesmerized as I am in listening.
Thank you Annie - between the kantele and Sacred Harp music, that's often the result.
Haunting, Cynthia. Beautiful.
Thank you Lisa, I wish I would too LOL. I sure miss my sweet dog.
Cynthia this is gorgeous. I wish you would do some more!
Beautiful sound. And your dog seems enthralled too.
Thanks for listening Gary, appreciate your sweet comment. Hope you're well too.
Sounds Great Cynthia!Regards Gary:-)
Thank you Gaye, glad you liked it.
Thank you Helen. I think you need one of these for improvising. Under this title in Call the Tune I have 3 so far if you're interested.

The CD I have is all acapella, a large group, all singing flat out, and all men I believe.
