A sacred harp tune that has somehow travelled down. This one probably moved me more than many others in a long time. This done on a Dan Cox equidistant stapl...
I visited the you tube web site, and enjoyed it very much. One of the best you tube videos I have ever seen or heard. Totally out there. I watched several other videos, but nothing quite like "The Old Churchyard".
Well Terry here is the version that grabbed me in the first place. Funny, can't remember how I even came across this one and it wasn't long ago. You will enjoy some of their other videos as well, I know I do. Guess I'm trying to stay on this side too, just in case, you know?
Well Cynthia, you and your beautiful song have drawn me in again. Can't help it, it's just lovely, and like you say, moving. I find it haunting, enchanting. I don't know if I would want to go to that old church yard, the reality that it might conjure up might be overwhelming for a mere mortal like me. Might have to face a demon or two.
This is one of those songs that you want to just sit back, close your eyes, and sip, like fine wine.
Thank you Patty. This song has been running around my head and I just had to get it out. I'll check out Big Red and I agree with you about his dulcimers.
You need a book. It's called Sacred Harp, or shape note singing. It's a method to teach people to sing and sounds very precise when they do it as a result. Many of the tunes though are quite lovely, and the melody is in the tenor line. You can probably find lots of the music free on-line if you can't find a book somewhere there. Wondrous Love that John McKinstry did is another lovely one, and Supplication that Robin did, and I also did on kantele is quite beautiful. Good luck with it.
After reading comments to this video I've decided to clear what is 'Sacred Harp'. I've never hear about it. I find many videos on YT with singing and it's amazing! It's so sad that in our region such singing totally unknown.
That certainly is a lovely old hymn, Cynthia. You played and sang it very nice. I love the opening scene of this video, before you sat back with your dulcimer.
Thank you William, there are lots, but I'm a one-take woman, so all a bit rough. But I love these songs and must play them. You might like my Kantele Supplication video...I sure love your music, and your dulcimers, would like to hear what they are. My size! I've been playing your latest 2 off and on all day. A noter and a hymn, doesn't get any better than than, mmm hmmmm
Wow thank you Terry. Blushing...you're awfully sweet to say so many nice things in one sentence. I thought you were pretty brave to jump off the deep end too. Next time I expect to see you limping over to the chair with the dulcimer nailed to your thigh in several places. Mine gets away too, but mostly when I'm on live...where's that nail gun...my pick even got away this time, to my horror.
Very nice hymn, and beautiful singing! Thanks for this music, Cynthia!

That is beautiful. Dan does make a nice sounding dulcimer. I own Big Red

Thank you for watching John and Ken. Yes, Dan makes a fine sounding instrument.
That certainly is a lovely old hymn, Cynthia. You played and sang it very nice. I love the opening scene of this video, before you sat back with your dulcimer.
Well done, Cynthia! Dan makes a wonderful "silvery" sounding old-time dulcimer.

Very enjoyable to listen to. More, please!
Very nice hymn, and beautiful singing! Thanks for this music, Cynthia!
