Everyone else plays this song, why not me?I began taking Skype lessons with Mark Gilston, and while I was working on strengthening my pinky for a song he was teaching me, this old standard just popped out of the fingerboard.
John Henry: it is embarrassing how few tunes in the standard repertoire I can play. Little by little I hope to remedy that, though.
Dana: the beginning is just some rhythm--what bluegrass musicians would call "taters"--to set the beat. The tag at the end isthe I and IV chords. I should have played the B part one more time but had a momentary lapse and tried to cover it up by throwing in those chords as a kind of exclamation point.

Cool, Dusty! And your pinky seems plenty strong to me.

OH I loved that Dusty and you made it look so smooth. I play cripple creek all the time but you make it look and sound so much better. And I liked you intro and ending I got to learn that. Thanks for posting.

Very bright and cheerful go at Cripple Creek. You did that GOOOOOOoooooddd !
A nice bright tune to wake up to this morning Dusty, thank you ! I really must have a go at the tune one day............. There are so many just lurking out there.
Strumelia, it is so funny you use an apple as a metaphor. Just yesterday as we reminisced about last fall's apple-picking trip, my daughter and I played a game deciding what kind of apples we would be if we were apples. I said she was a Golden Delicious or a Sierra Beauty, but she wanted to be a Pink Lady. We agreed I was a Gala apple because I like parties. Maybe my dulcimette is a Macintosh.

Thanks everyone for your friendly encouragement.
