Gregg, thanks for your great little story of the maple limberjack you gifted to Jean Ritchie. Also it's wonderful to know the carved headstock tribute to hummel player Otto Malmberg, whose old photo so many of us have seen in Jean's dulcimer book.
Page 14 of Jean Ritchie's "The Dulcimer Book" published in 1971 shows two photos of Otto Malmberg with his personal Hummel which is now in a museum. In 1973 Terry L. Watson built this Hummel and carved a likeness of Otto complete with hat, glasses, and coat as the head stock of the instrument as a tribute to Otto Malmberg and Jean Ritchie. Terry also built quite a few Limber Jacks one of which I have put up photos here on FOTMD. Jean Ritchie saw a maple wood one I had and liked it so much I gave it her. She took it home and used it for a beginning and ending on all the videos her production company made.
