Guy: Hi there. May I ask you what equipment you currently utilize for recording? You do have some of the best. Thank you. Cynthia
Aw thank you so much, Cynthia!
Guy, I love it! Will you marry me?
Thank you, Mike!
Thank you Patty. Yes, it does sound nice on a HD. It was written for harp so it obviously sounds nice there too! There has been much speculation and several theories why both instruments are called "dulcimers." It's always a lively conversation indeed!
Very pretty Guy . Thanks for sharing. I can imagine what it sounds like with an HD. There is a local lady who plays HD. It is a very different sound. I've always wondered why it's called a dulcimer .
Thank you so much Dusty, Karen and Rob, James, Janene, Karel, Cheryl, Benjamin, Peter, John, Wayne, Mary and Carrie for your comments!
Very nice job!
It's not in the "Complete" O'Carolan which I have, either. However, it is 635 in O'Neill's "Music of Ireland" and attributed to O'Carolan there. I had Joemy Wilson's 1st album years ago on either vinyl or cassette, and was very disappointed to see her next albums were hammered dulcimer. Sorry to hear of her problems.
Very nice playing, Guy. I'm on my third listening in a row. I also appreciate the camera angle you've been using. It's better than tab!
Wow, I had NO IDEA she played fretted dulcimer EVER. We met her at Mission Plaza in Monterey at a not-so-well-attended little street festival playing hammered and hawking her cassettes back in the 80s. I was blown away by the beauty of her playing and what she was playing (O'Carolan) and we bought a hammered dulcimer not long after (which I don't play)...had to have it shipped from a music store in Atlanta when my husband stumbled upon one there. This was pre-internet (basically). Thanks for bringingthis "new" melody tous.
Thank you for your kind comments everyone! Janene, yes it is a less well-known tune than many of his others. Joemy Wilson actually played the fretted dulcimer too. She played this tune both on the hammered and the fretted dulcimers. This was her fretted dulcimer arrangement. I don't think she's playing either anymore. I heard she had some sort of carpal tunnel syndrome or something similar which inhibits her ability to play.
Glad to see another video of your wonderful playing Guy! Nice video, nice playing, and nice dulcimer.
I don't know this one and I checked my "complete works of O'Carolan" and couldn't find it...although I googled it and it's obviously well known. I was wondering if it has another name. Also...you used a Joemy Wilson hammered dulcimer arrangement?????...I saw that I own the cassette where she plays it with Blind Mary etc. based on what I saw online, but I'll have to find that old cassette. Thanks for doing it, it's lovely.
Sehr fein und mit Gefhl gespielt!Thank you!Karel
Very nice!
Very nice.
Beautifully played, Guy!
