Rhonda, here is a link to my YouTube Channel where I post all of the videos that I post here, plus more...the stuff that isn't in public domain. You'll find Pretty Saro there as well.
Janene's YouTube Channel hope you like Saro. I'm enjoying trying some of these old time songs. Imost frequentlydo fingerpicking style Irish songs.
Alan, thanks for taking a listen! Mary, I played a lot of years before it occurred to me to even sing myself. I don't perform at all and don't have the songs memorized, I make a simple arrangement, give it a go, and when I make it through once on my webcam, "cut, print, move on." It's too painful to see myself squinting at a binder slogging thru a song so the focus on the dulcimer with the camera is terrific for me. I'm thinking you actually do some performing. I think hearing those of us that are singing along, more will follow. It sure has added an additional element of interest to me but I consider myself a dulcimer player who sings now and again, rather than a singer. I'm always most interested in working out an arrangement.
That was very nice. I like your dulcimer playing and you have a beautiful voice.

Janene, your voice (so beautifully suited for accompaniment by your play) and when you're playing drones grabbed my ears right away! Always a treat to hear you!

Very beautiful, Janene! Has that real ol' time flavor to it. Great playing and singing! Your strumming has a personality to it and is very tastefull.
Janene, I do not think you can strum with any feeling at all if you are overly self aware. We all have to think about strumming when we first start, but you can't begin to express yourself until it just happens, allowing you to concentrate on other aspects of playing or singing. Those of us who started on the guitar have an advantage in that regard, I think.
My strumming is purely intuitive.....I think it comes from whatever version of the song I listen to, in this case...fiddle versions. I'm not terribly self-aware, so I appreciateyour observations.
I really like your right hand on this song. With no aggressive strumming at all you manage a rhythm that keeps things moving in between melody notes. Really nice work.
