I'm always amazed at what a beginner group can achieve in an hour and a half or so with some simple, specific coaching. This lot were sounding pretty good and it was great to have bass, banjo, guitar, mandolin and fiddle backing to keep everyone in time and to drive the tunes along nicely
Geoff Reeve-Black and I have been busy running dulcimer workshops in the UK over the summer. Here's a photo of an introduction to the mountain dulcimer session we ran at Shrewsbury Folk Festival a couple of week's ago. We have about 20 or so 'loaner' dulcimers between us for running such sessions so we can cope with a decent number of festival goers who fancy giving the dulcimer a try. For this session I managed to round up a few other musicians from the festival site who kindly came to play along with our beginners. We managed Old Joe Clark, Soldiers Joy and June Apple during this lesson. The participants did great and had all 3 tunes up to a good session speed by the finish.
Looks like a eager and good group Robin. Glad you had a good summer of teaching and playing our sweet instrument all summer.
Thanks.

Well done lads.
That is great Robin, looks like a good group and mix there. Keep on spreading the word.
Way cool, Robin! You & Geoff have a good-sized congregation there. Keep preaching the good news of mountain dulcimer playing!
