This is my attempt at a version of the Belle Isle March which can be found at this website of Welsh traditional tunes: http://www.alawoncymru.com/alawon/Tunes/Tunesal.html
Hello Beth, my I ask you how your dulcimer is tuned? The piece and your wonderful playing inspired me to play this tune on the dulcimer myself.
Hello Luigi! So glad that you liked this. I've been watching your videos and feel that I could learn a lot from them, as your style is closer to mine than other players I enjoy listening to on this site. My dulcimer is tuned DAD. The Belle Isle March is often played here in Wales with the other hornpipe I posted - Gorhoffedd Owain Cyfeiliog - most often in the key of G. I've recorded that tune in G, with a capo on the 3rd fret of my DAD-tuned dulcimer.
Nothing like a good hornpipe to brighten up the day!
You’re so right! I’m going to look for more lively tunes to get my fingers around from now on - but I’ve got a long way to go before I’m as lively a player as you are James!
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out why this tune seemed so familiar to me. I think it is very close to the old Morris Dance tune "Monk's Dream." Check out a version here . At least the A part seems the same.
Yes, you’re right. This tune seems to have many names and variants. I was looking yesterday on The Session website and found this: https://thesession.org/tunes/2734
Apparently it’s also known as Lewis Proudlock’s hornpipe, General Monck’s March, General Monk’s Goosestep and other variations on those names!

This sounds very nice, Beth! We have a Belle Isle park in Detroit, Michigan near where I live.
Thanks John. There seems to be as many Belle Isles as there are variants of this tune and its names!
Your such a good player. I always look forward to your posts.
