Just intonation, poplar top and back, walnut fingerboard and scroll, 4 string, no extra frets. AND it exceeds my wildest expectations. I highly recommend Rob...
Thank you Ken, strangely, there was no adjustment period with this one, it just flowed. Who knows, one day you and your wife may be travelling around, and you may get to try it. You will be mentioned on the next video, Lazy girl. Thanks again.
Did you reckon now JH? Just like you, it takes a mighty smart person to get me to part with my money. That AW Jeffries is a mighty good choice to copy. Didn't figure a smart ol' farmer likely to keep on a plantin' a crop what failed time after time. Finally I decided to trust him when he went just...you I'd trust too, just can't get at 'cha, lol. I had a goody, he made me a nice pick which I found after, made from a coffee can top. Bet you don't have a pretty yellow one hand made... I would like some goodies from Mr. Ledford's workshop too. Thanks for watching.
Always 'reckoned' Bob's dulcimers! Never done a vid of the unpacking of an instrument, but did post a series of pics showing the unpacking of a very kind gift of enough timber to make me a TMB, sent from Indiana to Bristol ! I was just as excited as Cy, particularly when I found a couple of goodies that came from a certain Mr Ledford's workshop !
This was not Christmas, it was actually my birthday! It took some serious cajones to do this and trust in a guy whose dulcimers I had never put my hands on before. Everything shows in my face, and if I had not loved it, it would have been all over me. I'll never do it again! Very common to see uke unboxing videos, but I had never seen a dulcimer one, and in a moment of sheer insanity told Robert I was going to do that!
Randy, hysterically funny you think I'm funny! I was TRYING to do this straight, but I always end up being me. Thanks for watching this - to me you will always be that cool dulcimer you built, it suits you.
Cynthia, I had to come back and look at this again especially without being distracted with household disturbances, lol. Thanks for letting us share your excitement in your new dulcimer. It sounds great. I look forward to hearing a song from you soon
Terry it is only just intonation tuned DAA, or I guess CGG or EBB. Ionian in other words, and you can hear how sweet that is. Yes, you play it like any DAA tuned dulcimer. He sure makes a fine one, I've never heard the sustain this one has, sounds like an organ. More practical is equal temperament, and he has one for sale now, he doesn't make many. That one you can tune all over the place. I do believe you would not go wrong with that one if you're looking.

Do you play it like you would any other dulcimer tuned DAD or DAA?
Terry indeed, I like that Schuler dulcimer so well I'm considering buying his butternut with the 6.5 equal temperament. I sure like this AW Jeffries design he uses.

I just had to watch it again. Thought you might still tip over. Nope. One thing we learned. Cynthia likes her new dulcimer.
It was just a thing I wanted to do. I would have edited out the paper removal Ben if I knew how to edit. And Lisa, I'm sure we'll be seeing a dance from you soon enough!
Well, now, have I seen everything? Watching a video of someone unwrapping and going through all those motions of a new dulcimer???? I think I could have been spared some of that!!!!
But, hey, that's pretty nice anyway! But, I may have to find something stronger to drink now, and then come back later!
Thanks Terry. I really do love the sound of this, but just is not for everyone, not a real flexible tuning, but tuned to what it is, it gets no sweeter than this.

Congratulations Cynthia. Looks and sounds beautiful.
Maybe I'll surpise everyone and do a 'dance of the seven veils' and post it here...won't be copyrighted, and I'll be 'performing' in it myself.... Avert yer eyes! I'll try not to tip over, though it might make it all more interesting.
How would a person go about ordering a Robert Schuler dulcimer?
He is a member on this site. A private message to him should do the trick I would think.

Cynthia, thank you for sharing your unboxing with us. It is a beautiful instrument, and have fun "breaking it in"
JH, I may have bought dulcimer from Robert, but you'll always be my hero.
