I fell in love with this piece the first time I saw it! A very strange piece in deed. Awkward but interesting? About 25 1/2 inch VSL, 3 and a quarter tall sound box, pine with a walnut fret board.
This is not mine. John Rice Irwin purchased this piece about forty years ago and it is displayed at the Museum of Appalachia.(Were I work)
Lisa, this piece doesn't have feet, I suppose some folks might have a time with the height. I would liken it to any large Galax? I'm going to make one for myself out of the pine with a walnut staple board.
Cool!
I'll bet it's got a busted head. Bless it's little old pea-pickin' heart...
"Tis a beauty in its way.

The shape is like that of my Will Singleton replica made by John Knopf. Nice find, Dan!

WOW that's neat!!!
Awkward because of its sound box height, Dan? It suggests to me that it was played on a table, like traditionally tall langeliks .
