Thanks so much for your comments, John. I performed this tune once and had a friend use one of those train whistles for accompaniment. You are right that it's a workout. Often I try to play it but run out of steam, so to speak, about half-way through and just stop. If I ever perform it again I'll need a cup of coffee for encouragement.
Dusty, that was fantastic. Your playing of that song,"John Henry" really stretched my mind as what is possible playing the dulcimer. I loved the sound effects too. The train really came to life and I feel like I had a wonderful journey. Thanks. John P.S. What a work-out too for both hands, and then to sing on top of it too. Great accomplishment.
Patty, the new upload seems to have worked here anyway. Maybe it was still in the process of uploading when I had a problem earlier. If I ever make an audio file of this tune, I'll let you know. But in the meantime, there are services that will extract the audio from a YouTube video and create an MP3 file. Check out this one .
Patty, there was indeed a technological problem that must have happened when we migrated the video from the old site to the new one. I tried to re-load the video, but it seems to have not worked and now it won't play at all. I may have to delete this whole discussion and start a new one. In the meantime, you can view the entire video on YouTube at .
I came back for a listen and it stops half way through. I discovered that on other older videos. I don't know why this is happening. Anyway, I hope you record this as an audio file. I would love to add it to one of my play lists.
Thanks, Roger. The bluesy chording comes in part from the 1+ and 8+ frets and partly from bending the middle string at the fourth fret to get the lowered third.
Thanks, Dana and Rob. Most of my videos are indeed one minute snippets where I go through a song once and then have nothing else to add. But I was surprised to find this one topped 4 minutes. Too long for top 10 radio!
Wonderful, Dusty! You did well; keep up the videos. And... it was not some little one minute snippet! Liked it, and I think your singing was just fine!
Thanks, @Elvensong. This is a fun tune but one that definitely takes some energy to perform.
What a treat! That would be a great tune for an ensemble.
Great job and yeah we always get better with seasoning. Don't you wish our bodies worked that way?

Dusty, thanks for the link! If you get a chance to upload the audio I would love to include this on my playlist.

Thanks so much, Tricia. Merci bien.
I love how you play - this is wonderful ! The string bending is so great. Also you have a good singing voice in my opinion.
Louis and Scott, thanks for listening and for your kind comments.
Wow! My toes are still tapping!
Thanks so much, Chuck. I'm glad you're listening.
I have played this over and over can't get enough of it Great playing great song and singing.
Well thank you kindly, Chuck.
Great job Dusty!
