"Give me the Roses" on octave dulcimer

Duration: 00:01:32
description:
I play a fingerpicking arrangement of the old Carter Family song "Give me the Roses While I Live" on a brand new octave dulcimer made by David Beede. I learned the song from Stephen Seifert at the Dulcimer School. For David Beede: http://www.davidbeede.com./ For Stephen Seifert: http://stephenseifert.com/ For the Dulcimer School: http://www.dulcimerschool.com/

Dusty, that is an incredible instrument - and beautifully played Grin.gif

It just sounds so resonant and the intonation seems perfect - both those features are really hard to achieve on a small body with a short scale. David Beede has done a great job there - wood selection and everything is just perfect - what a voice that dulcimer has !!!!!!!!

To be honest, my playing could be more precise, for the dulcimer had only arrived at my house an hour earlier and I have yet to really get the feel of it, but hopefully it helps showcase the fine craftsmanship behind the instrument.

I consider myself lucky;I own several outstanding dulcimers (a Blue Lion, a Ewing baritone dulcimette, a Laurel Mountain, and now an Eedy Beede). I just hope I learn to play well enough to do them all justice.

Thanks, David and Brian for your encouragement.

I am sure, David, if you wait I could put together a more impressive video, but for all its faults, this one does capture the initial enthusiasm of the dulcimer's arrival. Feel free to post it on your site if you wish.

Wow Dusty... that is soooo great!

What a sweet tune and light touch... great playing.

You mind if I post it on my Ocave Dulci page?

Thanks again for your patience...

All the best,

David
