Traditional Scottish. My Arrangement. Aeolus Dulcimer by Dale Foye www.aeolusmusic.com
Hi Cynthia! Thank you so much. I do have the tab for that somewhere. I'll try to post it when I get the chance!
Honestly, the best possible arrangement, EVER, to this lovely song. I would give anything and I do mean just about anything for the sheet music to your arrangement. It would take me years to copy by guessing. Are you working on a book of your arrangements? If so, Please tell me how to purchase.
Thank you, Mike!
It never used to sound thus when the 400 plus boys of the school I went to used to sing it during our so called 'music lesson', last period on a Friday, time being beaten out with cane on rostrum !!! I am telling the truth here ! (circa 1947, local state school)
Thanks for posting Guy

Mary, Here's a variant of the words to the tune. It's called "Over the Sea to Skye" www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/song-midis/Over_the_Sea_to_Skye_ (Variant).html
The geography of the Islands of Mull, Rum and Eigg is a bit messed up, but the song does paint an interesting picture of how a man's view of himself can change.
I sing both "The Skye Boat Song" and "Over the Sea to Skye"
Guy, I keep coming back to listen to your beautiful version of the tune. Love it.
Sure, Mary!
Hi Mary, it starts with the Chorus. I grew up with this one. Yeah, not sure what I did at the end. Some sort of improv. LOL
Thank you Mary. Yes there are words to this one:
Chorus: Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing,
Onward! the sailors cry;
Carry the lad that's born to be King
Over the sea to Skye.
Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar,
Thunderclouds rend the air;
Baffled, our foes stand by the shore,
Follow they will not dare.
Chorus
Though the waves leap, soft shall ye sleep,
Ocean's a royal bed.
Rocked in the deep, Flora will keep
Watch by your weary head.
Chorus
Many's the lad fought on that day,
Well the Claymore could wield,
When the night came, silently lay
Dead in Culloden's field.
Chorus
Burned are their homes, exile and death
Scatter the loyal men;
Yet ere the sword cool in the sheath
Charlie will come again.
Thank you Patty!
I agree with everyone, this is beautiful . Thanks Guy!!!
Thank you so much, Robin!!
Hi Guy,
That was lovely What a lush arrangement - and just beautifully played.
Thank you so much Terry, and thank your wife for me as well!!
Simply beautiful Guy. You are richly talented, indeed you are. My wife was listening from another room in our home and said "hey that's pretty! What's the name of the song?" I had no idea she could even hear you playing.
Thank you so much Dana!!
