So pleased this Burns song is getting another look/listen a year later. THANKS all for listening.... Wanted to come out with another one this year but I've been soooo busy, I'm exhausted.
If you like "Ae Fond Kiss", so many pretty versions out there, but I was most inspired by Mae McKenna on "Complete Songs of Robert Burns Vol. 8"-- GORGEOUS
Kristie...I'm somewhat familiar with Jean Ritchie's life and work. I do her song "My Dear Companion". Are you connecting her with Burns or Scots-Irish??? Just wondering what made you bring her up on this topic?
Patricia, thanks for your comment. I am working on a Scottish repertoire (haven't done much lately) but I do several Burns songs and working on more. I'm an Alexander on my mother's side (Scots-Irish I believe) You may also find some more here on FOTMD Mirk, Midnight Hour...etc. Other tunes I'm working on dulcimer...Glenlogie, Dowie Dens of Yarrow, Heather Down the Moor. Would love to hear of any tunes you know I might enjoy hearing or studying....thanks.
Terry--I was not familiar with the song "The Old Church Yard". Thanks for bringing it to my attention, it is obviously well known judging by the number of versions I was able to view on YouTube so I'm a little embarrassed to not know it. I found an artist whose version I related to the most and would like to work it out for myself...it takes me practically FOREVER however. I fool around with a song..sometimes a couple of years before I post it somewhere. Thanks so much for suggesting this beautiful traditional song.
Yes, your favorites are lovely too. I still love to listen to Eddi Reader. The penny whistle does it for me.
Just minutes ago, while waiting in our car, for my wife to finish grocery shopping. I again listened to multiple versions. Love it so much.
If I may take the time to share with you. The song "The Old Church Yard ", was the last song to grab me like A Fond Kiss. Beautiful song, introduced to me by one of our own.
I would really love to hear your take on this song. I believe you could make this song your song.
Terry, so glad you've found a new favorite. I stumbled on the song and then found out how popular it was later. I listened to many versions of it and my personal favorite is by Karan Casey...but the first version I heard was by Mae McKenna which has the original melody which is somewhat different and worth a listen if you can find it...it's on a compilation CD of Robert Burns songs by various artists that I got on iTunes. I think this more popular melody is attributed to Dougie McLean. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
I just wanted you to know that your beautiful song has now become my current all time favorite song. I've played your video many times, and I also love this song performed by Eddi Reader. While I love the music, and the words, the part I love the most is the flute. Absolutely beautiful. I find it hard to believe I've never heard this song before.
I'd love to figure out a way to share my notes on these songs so anyone who wants can try them. In a blog or with this video? Attach a PDF? Have to mull it over.
Already reserved this weekend for dulcimer/around the clock...but then the Pocono Winterfest got cancelled for snow. So have some time to work on some new tunes.
Oh my goodness, I found it. Beautiful. Absolutely heartwarming.
This is my all time favorite song. No kidding.
thank you
Jameme, I needed this sweet gentleness today. Thanks so much for posting such a lovely version of a beautiful song.
Oh, what can I say? Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautifully played!

As Dusty said, you can come sing me to sleep! Lovely, just lovely!
Enjoyed your Burns tune. I assume you are familiar with Jean Ritchie's work?
