It's about the fun, the fellowship, and the musical journey...that's why! With John & Karen Keane. Food for thought for folks newer to the instrument. Many have found the instrument at Silver Dollar City for the first time!
I see where you and Karen will teach at Folkcraft’s 2nd Saturday in September. Will you kindly tell me what you and your wife will be teaching? Thank you.
Thanks Terry! We started playing the dulcimer in August of 2010, but we have been professional musicians for our entire adult lives (I'm a tuba/percussion performer and Karen performs on flute). I am in my 30th year of teaching music and Karen is in her 28th (I think). We've taught band, choir, private applied, and whatever at every level from pre-school through college level. Teaching is our living. The mountain dulcimer (and Native American flute) is something that we do when the schedule allows, but we hope to have a more flexible schedule once we retire. Right now, our dulcimer appearances are mostly in the summer (with some isolated weekend events here and there during the school year). Thank you for the kind words!
Aww...thanks Helen! We're done for this year (dulcimer wise), but 2016 will be the busiest yet for our dulcimer exploits. We are really blessed to be able to spread the word about this wonderful instrument. Wish we could get down there!

Thanks so much, Lexie! We really appreciate your kindness and support!
It is fantastic how you have introduced our beloved dulcimer and used it to teach and share.
I really enjoyed this video and am sure it will be helpful for folks. I will be looking forward to all you will be doing in 2016.

Hi John & Karen
Your video is great. However, I am surprised to learn y'all just took up dulcimer 2009. I figured you were born I with one. Amazing.
I gotta ask. Since both of you have music degrees, do y'all teach or do whatever folks do with music degrees?
Or, do y'all play dulcimer for a living? Like say, Bing Futch. If the answer to the last question is yes, I speck I'll have a meltdown from envy.
Again, great video presentation. Awesome.
Thanks Mary! That's very sweet of you!
