Rob, Nice work I really like this one. I use Poplar almost exclusively , it has a wonderful tone. And folks just thought the old timers used it because it was cheap, and easy to get.
Just finished this dulcimer sunday morning after church... I uploaded a sound clip June Apple that was recorded with this dulcimer. This was the first time I used poplar. I am very impressed with the sound this wood makes. The varnish hasnt fully cured so it will be a couple weeks before the tone fully develops. I plan to build more from poplar... Bob.
Looks really good Robert. I like that design and the wood choices are excellent. Thanks for sharing.

John, Top & back are poplar. Top got shellac back and sides got a very thin rubbed out walnut stain. The scroll and fingerboard are walnut stained quarter sawn sycamore. Hung it out to dry but looks like a shower on the way. I can use the rain, just not on my dulcimer... Bob
Looks like a dulcimer, and I bet it will sound like a dulcimer ! ( I'm a simple sorta chap, always looking for the easy way in life, lol) What did you use to get colour in the timbers Robert ?
James, I got it setup for DAd although it plays well in any tuning. Thanks Bob...
Nice! What tuning will you set this one up for?
Yep! I said a while back that it looked like a dulcimer and would sound like a dulcimer. It does !!!
thanks for the tune Bob
