Seriously, thank you so much for the sweet comments!!!  I do cherish the time with the grandkids - the precious memories we have made.  It seems to be getting more difficult, but we still manage once in a while to make a little music. Thank you again!

You're not bugging me at all Sandi -- so thrilled to meet a fellow Richmonder who likes dulcimers! My mother's ancestors were out in SW VA (New River Valley) around the time that the original Neff dulcimers (which inspired my new dulcimer) were made. So yes, we will have to chat!!

Time to get the new dulcimer out of its wet wooden box ... :)

Oh, I love Church Hill (I'm a history fanatic) and your gaggle of children sounds delightful! I live in a small apartment just over the river in Forest Hill, and come with one very needy little dog. :)

From your video, I can tell you are much more advanced a player than I am. I bought a vintage dulcimer last month -- it kind of called to me from an antique shop on a stormy day like today -- but it is hard to keep in tune long enough to really learn on. So as a gift to myself, I had Dan Cox make me an old-style Virginia type dulcimer with modern tuning and fretboard, so I could at least get started while having my vintage dulcimer looked at/repaired.

My new dulcimer is supposed to arrive today, so I'm very excited! I played piano as a child, so have a little musical training, but not on stringed instruments. I would love to learn to play 'Amazing Grace' on my new dulcimer.

Sandi, I'm so excited to find you! I was despairing of finding anyone in my area who played, though I know of some folks in Louisa and Charlottesville.

Alas, I am a rank beginner (with two dulcimers!), although Larkin Bryant sent me a copy of her book and CD to start with. I will be taking my first actual lessons at the Crooked Road festival in May.

What kinds of dulcimer(s) do you have, and what kind of things do you enjoy playing? I like the traditional songs and playing styles most, I think.

So glad you are enjoying this "old" songs I find. If I ever make a CD, I'll let you know.  Made a feeble attempt but found I hated hearing my voice mic-ed like that.  Have to let it go and maybe try again later.  Thanks for the words of encouragement though!
