Marion and anyone else interested, here is tab to Beech Spring .

Thanks, Jan. I realize I haven't checked this discussion and missed some comments posted months ago. Sorry, Mark and Marion.Frown.gif

If anyone is interested, I did eventually put together some tab for Beech Spring, which I play at the end to demonstrate these techniques. If anyone wants the tab, just let me know.

This is very helpful, Dusty!

You're directions are very clear.

I just wanted to share this page of sheet music, which Robin Clark posted elsewhere. The song I play at the end of this demo, Beech Spring, is a Shaker hymn I suggested Robin play in a noter/drone version. In working on it he found this sheet music. Notice two things: 1) the tempo indication in the upper left above the musical staff; and 2) the ubiquitous legato lines over each musical phrase, indicating the notes should be played smoothly or connected, which is exactly the reason to use hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides.

Thanks, Karen.

I just noticed when reading your comment that my Android phone is also unable to play the video directly loaded using the FOTMD video uploader but has no problem with the version embedded from YouTube.Don't ask me to explain this stuff; it's above my pay grade.Smile.gif

Great instructional video Dusty. Thanks for posting another link, because I was having the same problem as Marion. I don't know why that happens on an iPad, but some vids you just can't watch. Anyway, great vid.

Thanks, Patty from VA and Cindy. I have learned so much from videos by other people; the only way I know to thank them is to pass it on.

Marion, try this. I uploaded the video to YouTube and have embedded it below:

Here is the link to the YouTube video in case the embedding doesn't work for you:

Thanks everyone. I tried to be both concise and thorough.

Dave, that Li'l Fella is an Eedy Beede octave dulcimer by David Beede. I used it for this so that I could get close to the camera and still have both hands in the frame. Obviously, if I had better skills with video I'd have a close-up of each hand, but hopefully this worked.

John, I hope you're feeling better. Your videos are more professional than mine, so whenever you get a chance I'm sure you'll be able to put something together that outshines this.

Great timing. We were just talking about doing a practice session on these techniques and this will be a perfect video for my group to study and use.

Nicely done. I had every intention of having a video done on this by now, but avoiding pneumonia and coughing my fool head off have intervened. Thanks for getting this up there! Smile.gif

Great instruction, Dusty! Encourages me to put more emphasis on these techniques for my own dulcimer playing.
Thanks for sharing!
