Last year my daughter wrote this Christmas song while on a roadtrip with her grandmother. I encouraged her to write a bridge when they returned, and this year her sing-a-long club at school performed it for their holiday show. This is the father/daughter version. I am playing a Canadian-made Seagull Coastline S-12.
Thanks, Joe. That kid sure makes me proud.
Thanks, Jud. My little "Bubbles" plays the piano regularly, but will only occasionally sing along with me. It's awfully fun when she does, though.
You've got a real trouper there, Dusty! with a knack for kazooistry Tell her to keep it up!
Thanks, B(M)B. I appreciate your comments.
Outstanding! We congratulate her on a wonderful song writing job and you raisin' her to do such great work. We can see by her smile that she really enjoys this. The expression on your face is that a very proud Dad! What a wonderful place this world would be if only more Dads and children a similar relationship.
Cool indeed Dusty, congratulations to you both !
John
Thanks so much, Marg and Guy. We got the confirmation from the copyright office a few months back that my daughter is now formally a songwriter in the eyes of the federal government! Pretty cool.
So sweet! Love it!
Wonderful, father daughter musical time. I can't wait to play this for my grandchildren.
thank you
Thanks, John. I'm still waiting to hear from the copyright office on this; I submitted the application in my daughter's name back in January.
There are a few ways to share documents. First, in some screens (though not the discussion following a video) there is a little paperclip icon that allows you to attach a document. You can do that, for example, in a personal message to someone.
You can also post a link to a document hosted elsewhere. When I first started my local dulcimer group I opened a free Dropbox account. That puts a Dropbox on your computer screen, and whenever you put a document in there it is available in "the cloud" to everyone you gave the URL to. I still do that, for the folks with iPads are able to download pdf files directly from the Dropbox. But now I created a website for our group and post tab there. Here is my simple arrangement of Beech Spring . Those last two options are best when you plan on more than the occasional sharing of the file. Otherwise, attaching documents in comments or personal messages is the best way to go.
Hi Dusty, I just played "Be Jolly, By Golly". Great job by your daughter and the backup was good tool On another topic, I recall you telling someone that you had the tabs to "Beach Spring" and could send it to them. I would like to be on that list too. I'm not sure how you will send it or what you need to know from me, but I will await your instructions. I expect to have people asking for some of my tabs someday and so this will also help me to understand how this can be done. Again thanks for all your help in getting me to enter the world of videos.
Thanks Dusty. I love the Carolina Chocolate Drops. I've been a fan for awhile. That woman can play a mean Kazoo! Love it, love it, love it.................love it!
Ken and Terry, thanks so much for listening. Yes, I am lucky to have such a darling around. To be honest, she likes playing the piano more than singing with me, but as long as there's music in house, I'm happy.
And I agree about kazoos. They can make great music with no pretense. Terry, you might be interested ina rollickingversion of the old Memphis Jug Band tune "Memphis Shakedown" by the Carolina Chocolate Drops .
Thanks so much for this video Dusty. What a sweetheart and playing pardner you have there to share your time. I love it. I really like the addition of the Kazoo. I have just recently added a Kazoo to what ever it is that I do, and folks just seem to love it, well, as long as it's not overdone. Just a little here and there. As a new Kazoo freak, I say thank you, as what this world needs now is more kazooing.
PS: You might check out this web site, by typing in Doc Kazoo. He makes some really nice wooden Kazoos.
I just got a chance to see your video... it is really precious! Your daughter is a little sweetheart with a good voice. (and dad plays a nice 12 string)
Cheers Ken
Thanks so much, Jan. My daughter is getting a kick out of all the great comments here.
There are alternative lyrics, should you choose to sing this. The director of her singing-a-long club asked permission to sing "Santa's on his way" instead of "skies are no longer gray."Mydaughterassented, but later told me she likes her own lyrics better since they are less "kid-like."
I just played this again for my husband and niece. What a nice contribution across the miles to our Christmas Eve!
By golly, I do feel a bit more jolly! What a great song and a super performance!!! You two make a great team! Love it!
Karen, that's so sweet of you to say. Thanks so much!
Unbelievable musical talent runs in the family I see. That was great!!!!
