BTW, I don't use the red dye stuff. I make my own sugar water. One part sugar and four parts water. I don't add red dye. Most say not to use it. I've not needed it to attract them. They seem to like the clear sugar water just fine. I did tie a red ribbon on top of the stand to help attract them. Sometimes they will hover by the ribbon. I guess they think it's real flower, LOL.
I've not had this happen yet although my neighborhood seems to have plenty of clover...in all of our yards, LOL. I understand you can get a hummingbird feeder with bee guards. I guess we should all plant some more flowers for the bees.
I read a story about a fellow who keeps bees who wound up with pink honey and it took him a while to figure out that it was his neighbor's multiple hummer feeders that had a lot of red dye in the sugar water. They were making 'honey' out of red sugar water instead of flower nectar... cause it was way easier for them.
Never had this happen with a hummingbird feeder before. You can't see all the honey bees buzzing around it and (of course) the ones on the other side. I'd estimate between 50 and 75 and growing by the minute.

not sure about bees but......a little vegetable oil daubed on the feeding holes will
repel wasps. the hummers don't mind
The flowers must not be putting out enough nectar this time of year. I had a two or three this morning around mine. Nothing like that, Rob.
Puts a whole new meaning to the expression, "Line 'em up boys, drinks are on the house!"

Does my heart good to see that many around.
