The old song Desert Blues played on a 5 string Jim Good dulcimer, in Jim's tuning BGDDD. This one has the melody strings paired, but the B & G separated. I'm trying to play in somewhat the style of the great Alan Freeman. That thumb slide is hard to get right!
You play it very well Rob.
Thanks, Gary, it's a fun instrument to play.
Good Rob!
Steve, Gordon... thanks a bunch. Kevin.. it's something I had to try since I've got these Jim Goods. That thumb slide is harder than it looks, and remembering to use the thumb rather than the index finger has been difficult, too. Steph, I certainly thank you for that. I love to play those kind of things. I'm working on "Ain't Misbehavin'" now, since I've always sung it in G. Jim, John... I appreciate that very much. Patty ... I'm sure glad someone enjoys it! Robin T.... I thank you, thank you, thank you. That's what I was trying to do, not just be imitative. After corresponding with Alan for a while now, I've come to appreciate him more and more.
Rob, you do honor to Alan's style and on a Good dulcimer (what Alan plays), to boot! Well done!
Great playing and singing Rob. I love to hear you sing. I always do
Great job, Rob! Informative too!
Like your playing for sure, Rob. Sounds great.
Thanks Rob, that's an interesting style of playing. I appreciate you sharing this. Looks and sounds like you're having a good time.
Very nice, I like the new style of playing.
Sounds good Rob. Its interesting to see this way of playng
Thanks, Ken. I kind of just threw it together. Alan's style is so unique that I hesitated to try to emulate it, but after playing around with it for a while, it's fun.
Very good Rob. I enjoyed your playing. It looks like you are doing well in capturing Alan's style. Thanks for sharing this video.
Ken
"The dulcimer sings a sweet song."
Before the comments start: Yes, I know it's headless. I thought it more important to get all the dulcimer in rather than all of me. hmmmm..... Maybe I'll try that next. Thanks in advance for watching!
