Three years ago today I got my first mountain dulcimer. This is the third of three videos I am posting to celebrate the occasion. This is "Lilliburlero," which was originally a double jig but then became a march when lyrics were added and the song was used by both Protestant and Catholic forces in Ireland as early as the late 17th century. Today it is the signature tune of the BBC World Service.I learned the left-hand fingering from a dulcimer version by Brian G here on FOTMD, though I adapted it for a fingerpicking style.
Love'n this, beautiful. Now I am going to have to look up Brian's Video.
Thanks, Karen. I learned the song from Brian's video, so I hope I sound a little like him, but I also hope the fingerpicking technique offers something at least slightly different.
I can see and hear the similarities in your and Brian's playing. You sound terrific! I had to give this a second listen.
Thanks so much, Nina. I'm getting much more comfortable fingerpicking, especially playing at a slower, patient tempo.
Nice job, Dusty! And what a great choice of tune ( I think early music sounds great on MD) ! So glad you're enjoying finger-picking and your Blue Lion.
Nina
Val and Robin, compliments from you guys carry a lot of weight. Thanks so much.
That;s a really lovely version of the tune Dusty - Great touch and great tone!!!
Thanks so much, Karen, Carrie, and Brian. Especially you, Brian, since I learned the song from your video.
Karen, I played solely with flatpick until I got this Blue Lion. It just sounds so sweet in a soft finger style that I started learning to fingerpick just to do justice to the dulcimer.
Very nice Dusty! And happy dulcimer anniversary! :)
Love the Blue Lion it sounds great. Good job on the finger picking as well!!
John, Mandy and Sam, thanks so much for listening and for your encouraging words.
Mandy, for a long time I only played with a flatpick even though I really enjoyed listening to the soft fingerstyle approach of Nina Zanetti and Linda Brockinton. But this dulcimer, a Blue Lion IC, just sounds so great when fingerpicked that I decided to give it a try.
Really nice. Well played. I enjoyed this so much.
You really have a talent with that fingerpickin' ! great stuff dusty
Wow...very nice!
Why thank you, Wayne. I appreciate your listening.
