aka "Still I Love Him" sung with lap dulcimer. Do You Love an Apple? An Irish traditional song, probably from around the 1880s. Not real PC...she's treated badly, but stays with him. A reflection of the times possibly, as many folk songs are. Many verses out there, I chose the least objectionable. Has a beer hall feel to it. I bumped up the tuning to D#-A#-D# so I could better sing it. Chords are G C D...that's all. (I have a 1+ fret for the C chord)
@Irene, so pleased you like this one. It's a fun one!
well now, How I loved this one. smiling while writing. yeah, the words are a little rough and I've read the words some of other verses....HOWEVER, this is the beginning of their marriage....and some older songs of the Irish would tell of "getting it through till we're old"....The tune is happy, so is your voice. Just beautiful combo of your playing and singing. Thank you muchly, aloha, irene
This is great! Thanks for posting!
Thanks for sharing this song. Your voice and your playing really
captures this song.
Thanks for listening and commenting. I have to say, I learn so much from the FOTMD membership. These comments led me to learn about the group Trapezoid and listen to a sampler of songs from their Moon Run album. Enjoyed them, and uniqueness of what was initially, an all-HD band...and sad ending. Wasn't familiar with the music of the Bothy Band (had heard the name) and now know I really like them...didn't know what a clavinet was....now I do :-) Bothy Band "research" led to more information on the Battle of Aughrim..always enjoy a trek down historic roads. Thank you all.
Janene - you did a great job on this! And your dulcimer is beautiful!
I always love your singing and playing, Janene. Thanks so much.
I think I first heard this tune on an old album by the hammered dulcimer band Trapezoid.
Had never heard the Bothy Band. Name kept coming up while I researched this song, so just found them on YouTube, and really enjoyed them. Listened to several tunes.
Another wonderful song, Janene - thank you very much for sharing!
This makes we want to listen to my Bothy Band CD, a great Irish Trad group from the 1970s that did a version of this song. Thanks for posting your version. This is the first time I've heard it accompanied by the mountain dulcimer.
Yes, I absolutely love the Bothy Band too! I like Janene's version of this song better than theirs though. To me it just sounds nicer on mountain dulcimer than on clavinet.

Very nicely done!
I do love an apple, and I do love your rendition.
