Old ballad written or collected by Thomas Campbell. Played on a Folkcraft cherry teardrop dulcimer tuned DAAd. After talking about it some on another thread, I decided to try and remember how I used to do based on Judy Mayhan's recording on "Folksongs of Old Eire."
Rob Irealy enjoyed that I was wondering if manyPeople sing trad or revival ballads as I have always liked them your performence was great
Helen, I'm sure you can strum like that. It just takes a little practice. Oh and thank you for the kind comment on my voice.
Gail & Ben, thanks so much for y'all's kind comments
Rob, you have a nice voice and it's balanced out well with the dulcimer here. Very nice!
Rob, I think that your voice lends itself very well to this song.
Karen, Marc, et al... Thank you very much for the comments. I've loved that song from the 1st time I heard it. In fact, back in the late 80's I found a very old copy of Thomas Campbell's book from which I copied the lyrics surreptitiously in the used book store which had it exorbitantly priced. LOL Marc, I try to keep the dulcimer "behind" the vocals. Glad I accomplished it!
Very well done, Rob!
Lisa, I thank you for your kind comment. I learned a long time ago that the song is what's important. Too many wannabe rock and/or country guitarists/steel guitarists and bluegrass banjo players think it's all about them. If you can't enhance the song or provide a suitable background, then lay out! At least that's MHO and one I've tried to go by whatever genre or instrument I'm playing.
Really nice there, Rob.
This video sets a great mood for the tune. Nicely done once again!
Those ballads do tell a story. Another great performance Rob . I think you need to do something about that video camera. The mic is still doing the pops.
again, nicely done Rob - thanks for sharing your talent
I just love this, Rob. Nicely done. You have the perfect voice for these old ballads, and I like your strumming technique that supports it without overwhelming the story.
