musician/member name:
Duration: 00:18:50
description:
At the request of Geekling. Using the Schatten Dualie stick-on pickup with a Boss GE-7 equalizer on 2 different mountain dulcimers. The 1st is by an unknown maker, bought in Ritchie County, WV and tuned Ddd. The 2nd is a Sylvan James from Gassaway, WV tuned DDA.

Lisa, Dave... Thank you very much. I did have fun doing it.

Ken... Thank you; I've done several and I hope to continue to do some more.

Marion... A documentary?!? Thank you very much. No equalizers are tone controls, pre-amps are volume "boosters." An equalizer CAN have a preamp built-in but doesn't have to have one. Likewise a preamp doesn't have to have an equalizer in it. It's one reason I like the Boss GE-7. It's a great equalizer and also has the little bit of preamp boosts the signal.

Steph/Geekling, since it was at your request I did this, I'm pleased you enjoyed it as well as found it informative. As a student, I always hated dry lectures and demos so, when I taught, I tried to be add a little fun to the subject. Schatten makes other pickups, but IMO this one is quite versatile and easy to stick on anything with a soundbox. In fact, a friend of mine was so impressed with it he gave away his Bill Lawrence soundhole guitar pickup and got one of these.

It's a heck of a way to pick up swag, but, hey, whatever works for you is good. Grin.gif

I hope to be doing another one really soon with a flanger added to the effects as well. Now if I can just figure out where all my cables are....102.gif

Well, thank you John K, Guy, and Patty. Patty... yes, a pickup and an amp are all you need. The equalizer is just to add a little boost to the sound and tone coloration. There are equalizers with more and less than 7 bands of tone, but I think this is just right for most acoustic instruments. I use the same setup with nylon string guitars (which is what I bought it for originally) to get a kind of Willie Nelson sound.

Plus, I figure if I can wrangle a major illness every several months, I could score some serious swag!

Devious, Geekstress, just devious.

(( I like how you think!))

Great video Rob! I've learned somethingSmile.gif Correct me if I'm wrong. If I get a pick up and an amp that's all I need to have the basics of amplified sound? The equalizer just enhances things?
