Dusty, your kind comments and "wise" comments are so well written....now...we can all see you had a mother that loved you....and you have those qualities in your writings on this site. thank you for sharing this part of your life with us all. aloha, irene
Thanks, John and Kristi. I am grateful that I inherited my mom's love of music, but unfortunately her artistic abilities seem to have skipped a generation.
Thanks for your comments, Ken, Cindy, and Kevin. This is indeed a nice heirloom since it encompasses three generations in one nice picture.
By the way, the guitar is the same one in my avatar photo, but the baby has changed (from my niece to my daughter). I sometimes tease my wife that I might have been with her for 14 years but I've been with my guitar for 35! And my darling Guild never disagrees with me!
Kevin, I had two great uncles who fought in the Spanish Civil War and then died in the Battle of Britain in WWII. The air medals they were awarded are among my most prized possessions. One of them wrote a bunch of letters back to my grandmother, which I used to have as well, be we decided to donate them to the WWII archives at Brandeis University. I am sure your dad's diary is a valuable memory of him and the struggles of that time in our history.
Thanks for commenting, everyone. The original of this work is framed and on the wall of my study. My mom had shown artistic talent for decades, but when she began drawing based on photos of people (especially family members) she really found her artistic niche.

DT, your Mom did a great job on this! No question who is holding the guitar.
That is an incredible work of art...wow!

That is a great heirloom, I have a diary that my dad had kept during ww2 and I treasure it.

What a treasure for you Dusty. Your Mom is an artist.
My most valued things are the paintings my Mom did also.
Your mom did a great job, Dusty-- she made a treasure!
That's amazing! I'm sure this is a very special keepsake for you
