Hello Ed, thank you for your comment/s. If you look closely you may see some blacked out braces which extend across the full width of the instrument, part of the usual complex bracing system found on lutes, and further support is given to the 'Rose' in the form of a piece of linen which has been saturated in glue and placed in position before cutting commences. (I do the same on my dulcimers if I think the intended sound hole warrents it)The dulcimer that drew your other comment has been signed by various people who have given me pleasure by playing it, among them Jean Ritchie, Maddy MacNeil, Roger Nicholson,John Shaw and others(including my 8 yr old great grandson!)regards,JohnH
