Played on an English Yew (a softwood !) 'Look-a-Like' copy of a dulcimer held in the Museum of Appalchia, Norris, Tn. (L A Smith Cat. listed D3, cica 1750 ?) with wooden pegs and staple frets set to just intonation, based on figures provided here by friend Bob Reinsel, played here with all steel plain strings (0.018, 0.011, & 0.013) tuned 1 5 5.
One of my favourite songs.... Just lovely!
Point taken Steve, my apologies for the diversion. !
John Sigh...oh well, I'll just have to use me imagination !
I bet to anyone reading this thread they'd be puzzled as to how you playing The Blackest Crow on a JI dulcimer turned into discussion about an Fotmd version on Calender Girls! And I'm still not doing it!
Spoil sport !
I don't know if Calender Girls played in the States but your images might put a few people off their breakfast although an Ed Thomas for a John Thomas seems appropriate somehow. Not that I'm volunteering for a 2016 fotmd Calender or anything!!!
Hmmm.......what flavour jam Steve? images of a remake of 'Calendar Girls' coming to mind here , with dulcimers instead of cherry buns tho'! (do I remember you buying one of those very narrow Ed Thomas replicas ?)
best wishes
John
The WI? Of course but can't stop to chat I've got jam to pot!
Thank you Steve ! If that's an echo then I am happy with it ! lol Great to see you posting again (did'nt know you were in the WI tho?)
John
Sorry. Is there an echo in here?
Sounding good JH!
A lovely bright sound, Not to mention a cracking tune well played!

Thanks Rick, its growing on me (always appreciate the fact that you have listened ! As for the socks, well, I did read my share of Ginsberg a while back !
best wishes to you and yours
John
Lisa, no room for dirty socks, unless I clear away all the 'like' Mags., lol
John
Robin, I've explained the deal on offer before, you ship that 'garden feature' of yours over here, I'll reciprocate !
John
(would love to be reminded of its appearance again tho'?)
Been meaning to post, JH--beautiful instrument, and I always love to hear you play. Just an aside--you look like a sandals sans socks kind of guy to me.
Lisa, I'll buy the socks, too! ;)
Maybe under the bed is where JH hides his dirty socks...
John, in order to help, I'll buy all on the bed and under it, too! :)
Thank you Robin T ! As for the bed, it might be a good idea to sell to you (and there are as many MD's underneath), 'cos then our so called 'spare bedroom' could indeed become a proper bedroom, lol.
John
John, your dulcimer sounds wonderful and is, indeed another treasure! Also, I'm interested in buying that bed and all its contents. :) Such a treat to hear you play!
