John and Karen.. I am so happy for you two on the publication of your dulcimer books I am sure many players out there are going to benefit greatly by you efforts. All the best on its distribution, and the boarder colors you chose will certainly make it stand out in a crowd.
Thanks Robin! Patty, that is an OUTSTANDING question! I want people to actually play this music and share it with others. As long as folks tell where it came from (and it's not for profit) I hope that they will play away! The copyright issue that I would be most concerned about is the rampant photocopying going on these days. If a group decides to put one of these tunes into their repertoire it would be flattering, but one member purchasing the book for nineteen others to have photocopies would not be good. It is a LOT of work to put stuff like this together, so photocopying disrespects the author/composer, breaks the law, and drives prices up for others down the road. Dulcimer musicians don't make large sums of money. They promote the instrument mostly because they love it. The purchase of books, CDs, and whatever else is what buys the gas to keep musicians going from town to town. I think that people sometimes forget that.
John, you can play the tunes from your book and post them here without worrying about getting permission from the copyright holder By the way, does this mean Karen has to get written permission from you if she wants to play your songs, LOL

Originals from an original! Cool.
Thanks Lisa! I genuinely hope that folks will enjoy it, but I also hope that it will inspire others to write more original mountain dulcimer music as well.
Thanks y'all! Dusty, I don't know about "big time" lol, but it is great fun (as you are well aware) to promote this wonderful instrument. The fun doubles when we promote it with great friends like Bing. The books went to print today and should be available from Folkcraft within a couple of weeks.
Wow! Congratualtions John! That's really cool. A book out and Bing wearing your shirt on his resonator video. You'v hit the big time, son, the big time!
That's terrific John, I am excited for you and excited for me, there are not many instructional/tab books on noter/drone out there.
It is great you did this, cause of the number of beginners who choose to play noter/drone and get confused with the tabs which show chording and playing the middle, bass strings.
Thank y'all a bunch! We really hope that you folks will enjoy them.
Congratulations Karen!!! I guess I'm going to have to spend some time learning finger or flat picking

Good news Karen, Congratulations! I will look forward to both yours and John's books coming out.
Thanks Ben, it certainly is. Karen finished hers too!
It must be exciting John. Congratulations.
Thanks Tumbleweed! Hopefully it won't be too much longer.
Hi John
I'm with Patty, I want to be on the list for a purchase.
TW
Thank y'all so much! Helen, I don't sleep much (since childhood) lol! The tunes are not recorded anywhere at this point...it's strictly the TAB.
Thanks Patty! We aren't quite to that point yet, but hopefully it will be within the next couple of weeks.
John, put me on your list to purchase your book... unless I need to purchase it through Folkcraft? Let me know because I want one

Nice to see someone writing original new songs for the dulcimer, John. I'm sure it's going to be a hit.
