Thanks guys, this one was built about a year ago ,and Terry has just recently bought it. This was the first Prichard that I tried the dyed finish on,looks pretty nice I think. Terry will be getting this dulcimer by the end of the week so maybe we can get him to play us a tune.
Kevin, so lovely, and I too love the dye finish, I even think I would have no problem with no dye, just natural with Danish Oil. I sure hope you post a clip on this one...
Happy to see that this finish was well received, I wasn't sure at first. I am going to be adding this type finish on all my reproductions. I want to thank al those who commented..... Kevin...
Thanks guys for the comments , I wanted to try something a little different, but, still use methods that would have been available to C.N.Prichard. This finish instantly aged the dulcimer, to see it you would think it was an older instrument. Randy, it isn't the natural wood ,it is dyed with a mixture of three dye colors, red ,yellow ,and brown. It does have a mahogany look to it, I realy like it too. And yes all my dulcimers are always for sale.
The natural finish gives the Prichard a different look. I like it! Did you pick up a particularly nice looking piece of poplar?....the side view pic looks a little bit like mahogany.
Is this dulcimer for sale?
The little bit of snow on the north side is a nice touch!

Looks great Kevin.
Kevin, that finish is really nice....makes it a whole new kinda Pritchard! I'd opt for the dyed finish myself. I like seeing the wood grain.
The dye job really turned out nice Kevin. It is certainly fun experimenting with different colors and finishes.
