@Irene, no I rarely if ever add a strum hollow. There's no use for one if you strum over the 14th-15th fret area anyway. And the vintage Virginia dulcimores rarely had a strum hollow. That little bump out is to support the full width of the bridge. The two drone strings won't have a fretboard underneath them. I was inspired to make this type fretboard after seeing photos of a vintage dulcimore from Kanawa county West Virginia

Bobby, what is the little bump out of wood near the strum hollow area, and it looks like you don't have a hollow area for strumming.....???
