This was completed just today in my shop. The verse is from the book of Isaiah: "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee." It's all walnut with hand-carved tuning pegs.
thanks for telling what you use. When I've read about other old dulcimers, they really did use some kind of fence staples. I saw somewhere that they drilled two EXACT holes and put the staples in. I thought that was cool too. aloha, irene
Thanks, Irene! I used .039" straight music wire, bent into staples with electrician's pliers. The VSL escapes me... it's already been sent off and should arrive at the new owner's home today. Each dulcimer is different, slightly longer or shorter, and I calculate each VSL as needed. Probably just over 27".
This is really beautiful. and what did YOU use for the frets? What's the VLS....I wish there were more photos of this instrument. It's hard making the little area for the pegs to go into. no easy task. beautiful simple carving pegs. I'd love to hear her sing. aloha, irene
I am planning to be there. Really looking forward to it.
Thanks, Richard. It was fun driving around Kentucky with you and the small gang of dulcimer "scholars". Maybe we'll do it next year too?
That's a real beauty John.

Exquisite, John. Another great job!

"The dulcimer sings a sweet song."
Looks great, John.
John, those exquisite pegs remind me of the beautiful pegs the late-Mr Mize carved. So fine.
