This is "Long Tom", my latest Thomas dulcimer. I know, it looks just like so many others of mine, but here it is nevertheless. It's heading to California Friday.
Kevin, I spaced the strings that way in order to have the melody string go over the center of the frets rather than close to the edge, to make playing easier. Like Uncle Ed, each of my dulcimer replicas is slightly different from others.
Bob, I already sent the dulcimer to California, and the new owner has it and is working it over now. Maybe he'll post a video sometime?
Just wondering...is this 3 equally spaced strings or 3 strings with the 2 drones set apart from the melody? Looks equally spaced in the photo. Wouldn’t that be slightly “unusual”?
WoW! What a beautiful dulcimer love the black finish.
Nope-- same size as yours, David! And much more playable.
I take it that "Long Tom" isn't as long as the eight footer you built a couple years back.

Hi John- Can you strum a video of 'Long Tom' for us before it's journey? Would be neat to hear it sing

Good looking dulcimer, John.

"The dulcimer sings a sweet song."
Whoever gets Long Tom is in for lots of happy strumming!
Some lucky person in California's gonna be mighty happy!
I love that combination of black matte paint and natural wood finished pegs, nut and bridge John. Long Tom... love the name too.
