I mad new hand-carved tuning pegs for my new Sam Russell dulcimore. They look SO much better than the black Perfection pegs, and are more accurate to the prototype dulcimore. And you can see the "open D" tailpiece now in these photos.
Those are pretty pegs (maple?) and match the caps on the scroll. But I'm a believer in geared pegs, I'm afraid. I've replaced friction pegs on two dulcimers with Peg Heds and have never for a moment regretted it.
