Patty. I imagine what catches your ear is the tuning. I play this in CGC tuning.Dusty thanks. It is a long road and to me the fun of music is each new piece you work on is like an ever changing puzzle begging to be worked. They are never finished. Which is so contrary to the way I felt early on. The only reason I ever competed in any contest is that I wanted to teach music. That's really all I wanted to do from the time I started flute in the 4 th grade.David kept telling me I needed to play my own arrangements but I didn't have a clue. I thought what was on the paper was it!! He gave me the list I posted for competition which is really a list of how to arrange. From the very beginning I was hooked. Where can I play this tune, how can I get from one place to another, how can I clean this sound to hear each and every note.... It was a treasure trove of fun to me. The only limits we have as far as being better players is not natural talent but rather the negative way we think. The I cants ... We often shut the door before we have heard a word. I see it in students faces. You tell them a new concept and immediately they shut the door and think I can't do that , it's too hard. I'm not good enough! Anybody can learn to do something, some may get it the first time and it may take others weeks but that is learning music. It's the journey, the learning the new things and changing of the old.. Each song is a challenge I refuse to lose.. And quite frankly I was much happier and excited when I was learning than I am now. That was the best part!!! Enjoy the journey , it's great.

Linda, thanks so much for your comments about how much time and energy you put into developing this arrangement. It is a good reminder to the rest of us that true art is the end product of a long, laborious, and thoughtful process. Some may be blessed with a natural gift, but it still takes hard work to allow that gift to shine.

It also reminds me how fortunate we all are that you and other wonderful players are so willing to share your masterful creationswith us. We all owe you our most sincere thanks.

Lol thanks Karen. Glad you both liked it. Amazing huh since I don't know what a chord is and I don't dwell in mode land?

That was pretty. I like the tone differences that you get by altering between the plucking and finger picking. Also the subtle tone differences between the melody verses the middle string. My wheels are a spinning now!!! LOL

Thanks to all!! Dusty I played this song for 4 competitions in 98,99,2000 and 2001. That means I played this song over and over every day for at least 4 years tweaking and changing it.Some of the Competition criteria to strive for: , playing tunes in different places, using as much fretboard as possible, changing keys, intros, exits, and connectors to pull it all together, dynamics, consistent tempo, clean not muddy sound, clean hammer ins and pull offs . Record and listen! 4 songs needed . I used to pick the songs I would work on the following week after losing and worked on them every day cause with my nerves I had to know them like breathing. So no discouragement allowed :-).... Just keep doing what you are doing!! Going on 25 years of playing.

That, Linda Jo, was absolutely wonderful. You took that "old chestnut" to a new level and showed us there is no need to play anything in the same boring way. My hat's off to you!
