Thanks James!!! I'm sure you have fond memories of your grandmother playing hymnsSmile.gif As I've mentioned, I've not heard of this either until a friend of mine posted it on her FB page. Here is a link that gives some more detail about the hymn, http://www.hymnary.org/text/to_canaans_land_im_on_my_way . Apparently it appeared in 44 hymn/song books. It doesn't look like it was published in any hymnals after 1970 according to that time line. I love my Prichard. Kevin did a fine jobSmile.gif

Patty, I know a lot of the older hymns, as my Grandmother was the church organist in the Methodist Church in her village, but I don't think I'd heart this hymn until playing your video. Well done, and love the PrichardGrin.gif

Nice playing, Patty! That song works great noter/drone!

My favorite non-dulcimer version of this song is the one by Ricky Skaggs and Tony Rice:

. And they're even playing in D, so you can play along.

Thanks Steve! I've not heard this either until recently. I found out about it from a post on FB from a dear friend of mine. There are a few recordings on Youtube. It seems there is some slight variation in the lyrics. Here is a link that Mike gave me of Charlie Moore and his band singing this tune,

Rob, I was looking at the video carefully and it does appear I was strumming hard but I didn't think I was strumming too hard. I played it a little bit ago and paid more attention to my right hand and I figured out what is happening. I'm using a small nylon pick and occasionally the first knuckle on my middle finger hits or brushes the strings and that's why you see the dulcimer move a bit.

Thanks Rob!!! After messing up four times I suppose I might have got a bit hard with it...got a bit frustrated to say the leastGrin.gif

Well, Patty, You've done well! Opinion: it seems like you're strumming really hard, almost (shall we say) violently. Relax. Let it swing along. [aside: I wrote this about 8am this morning and forgot to hit <add>]

Thanks Gregory, Jim, Ron, John Henry and Frank!!! Jim, I'll bet you're playing it better than me. I still need to practice Father Halpin a bit moreGrin.gif Ron, the 1 5 5 tuning is DAA with D being the bass string. The Prichard repro I play likes that tuning. Right now it's a bit on the sharp side of DAA. John Henry, Kevin makes a great dulcimer. I truly have enjoyed it from the moment I got it. I'm not going to use any Spam anything LOL. I've been tempted to get one of Mike's Spamjos but only if I have a weak moment. I'm sure the canjos he makes are great. I just have a hard time with the Spam part of itGrin.gif

Thanks Kevin, Ben, Cindy and Carrie!Smile.gif Kevin, I hope I did the Prichard justice. I did record the audio with an H2N recorder and used Audacity to boost the volume a bit. I didn't have a problem with adding to the video. Carrie, someone suggested I sing this but this song really requires two people to sing it. Are you interested?Smile.gif
