Here's a new Galax dulcimore with Perfection tuning pegs. It's all black cherry except for the Sitka spruce top. Yours truly is pictured in his shop as well!
It's a Raymond Melton design, the builder and player who Phyllis Gaskins learned so much from. I like this design better than Roscoe Russell's Galax design, which I've made also. Irene, it was commissioned by a retired professor in Colorado. As soon as I finished it, it was sent off!
I slowly looked at this gorgious dulcimer 4 times, stopped at every photo. Just too perfect. Is this for you or some very lucky person? I'm visiting my families in California (that was 4 days with 5 girls & me) and now in Utah with other family members. I didn't bring a dulcimer with me because I have stopovers....miss playing it a lot. I think tomorrow I'll visit some pawn shops to see if I can find a dulcimer I can keep in Utah for my playing when I'm here. Thank you for showing this beautiful dulcimer. I ordered some pegs like that and when I can make another dulcimer when I get home, going to use those. aloha, irene
This is a gorgeous dulcimer John. I love the diamond sound holes.
In case someone doesn't realize what Perfection pegs (or Whitner pegs) are- they look like normal ebony tuning pegs but actually have full gears hidden inside them, so they turn like silk... they never pop loose or get 'stuck' and they are so easy to turn the slightest amount which eliminates any need for fine tuners. Seriously, they makes tuning a real pleasure.
I'm so glad that you ladies like it!
