Very nice dulcimer and playing, John. It's great that you used mostly recycled wood too. I have a stack of red oak fence boards that I've planed down and plan on using for a scheitholt/dulcimer. I love "Elk River Blues". Does anyone have a tab that they could share? I'm sure this one is copyrighted though.
Just popped on to listen to this again. Elk River Blues is a wonderful tune, well-played on that beautiful dulcimer you built!

Amish teenage boys here wear shirts that color. One of the few displays of color that they wear. This is a beautiful instrument, and like Robin, you've made me want to learn this tune.I look forward to seeing your tin-worked and staple-fretted instrument. I am useless at anything more delicate than rough carpentry, and I wish I knew more.

Thank you Stumelia, there is a very hard and tough French Rugby Football Club that play in pink shirts. Don't know why or how, but I seem to have at least five which are more or less pink!! Hey-ho.best wishesJohn

John Henry- what a lovely tune you played, and a beautiful instrument! The shirt?....reminds me of when I bought my new little digital camera last year. I got the pink one because everyone has silver and black ones...wanted to be different. When Brian saw it he said: "Oh, so you think that by getting a pink one that'll keep me from borrowing it, huh? Well your clever plan WON'T WORK! I couldn't care less about people seeing me with a pink camera!"

Bobby, as soon as I have anything to report I'll share with you, I've been helped along the way to get this far.Yew! Bow! Shaping the stave. Would I be right in assuming heartwood on the inside curve where the compression will occurr, I have a decent piece from which I think I will make my great gandson a starter bow, we always used to make em when I was a child, using just a pocket knife ( my mother always used to select the best of my arrows for a switch, did'nt seem fair that I had to provide the means for my punishment, LOL) health and safety over here seems to have killed off all the 'finding out' spirit in youngsters, all they want to do is play with electronic gizmos that I know nothing about!!!JohnH

Thank you Robin, I'm leaving Bobby out of it, he's an archer don'cha know! I did'nt know that you had a MB! I made one in a hurry last year, it''s OK, but I'm partway thro' building a second one, in poplar, complete with 'tin' at each end and staple type frets! Will be interesting to see how it turns out.regards,John

John Henry,The instrument's a beauty and sounds as good as it looks! You've got me wanting to learn this tune-- you played it wonderfully. And there's nothing wrong with the color of your shirt. Just ask Bobby.
