Tune first heard played by the late, great, Roger Nicholson on his LP "The Gentle Sound Of Dulcimer" (late 1970's). Here played (warts an'all) on a replica Virginia style dulcimer tuned DGd, strung with 0.010, 0.010, & 0.011 plain steel strings, noter and bow, (the bow having but 14 strands, lol, and don't it show! Am waiting on a new one!)
How did I miss this one John H !!!!
That's wonderful Bloody brilliant
There is a movie soundtrack in there somewhere?
You and Dave Rogers are leading the way with this bowing lark. I can really hear how this would have worked on those old Virginia dulcimers with plain gauge strings.
Keep at it - you are rediscovering a truely lost art !
Great stuff John Henry, brought a smile to my face.
I'm ashamed to say I only ever knew it from the music hall/rugby club variations.

Thank you Carrie ! Fellow member Dave Kirkpatrick, who was a friend of Roger, has posted a good noter/drone version on this site. I have also heard it called 'Valse Vienna', among other things ! It was a tune I played on my hammered dulcimer the first time I busked ! I remember well that I collected less than $5 in nearly two hours playing. I must have been terific ,lol
John
Very nice John Henry. I don't know if you'll remember this, but you were the person who initially turned me on to Roger Nicholson with during an earlier discussion here on FOTMD. Thanks for that! :)
Hey, I've heard that tune before, John. Never knew what the name of it was. Nice job.
