I have Seven Foot Dilly and Annie & Mac turned around but....o well..

There is a lot more to find out about Spanish Fandango if someone wanted to look into it.

Seems to me Spanish Fandango is a dance and tunes that fit the dance were called by the name. Some of the versions I listened to are similar in structure if not melody.

Thx Phil. I've never been much of a song historian. I just like to play melodies that captivate me and enjoy learning about the history of the tunes from others. but....here goes.

I dug out my cassette of Dancing Home by Stephen Wade. Here is what he had to say about Spanish Fandango.

"This tune comes from Pete Steele of Kentucky via Tom Paley. Both of these men are masterly musicians, each of them able to play in a diversity of styles. Fleming spoke of the banjo as an instrument of expression. He said 'It's not just pyrotechnics and it's not hickory dickery dock either. It's a thing of beauty and each piece of music is like a jewel full of facets. Turn it around and try it again.'"

Interesting but not enough. So I googled SF http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fandango and learned a Spanish Fandango is a dance in 3/4 time.

I looked up Spanish Fandango on u-tube and discovered numerous versions. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Here is 7 Foot Dilly ...good fiddler and led a string band in the 20's.....look him up! He's is playing guitar here.

Here is one similar to Stephen Wade's version but older and less developed but just a beautiful.

And Stephen Siefert play a beauty here. Similar to your Phil.

Great Randy! SF is one of those songs that sounds different every time I hear it played. I learned it from an arrangement by Larry Conger and you would not know it was the same song that you are playing. I'll post it on the forum so everyone can hear the difference.

Thank you very much Keltia.

That's funny Tony! I remember that cartoon. Ever so often a person gets a little spark of creativity but a lot of the time it's horseys & duckys... : ).....
