Well I do know that I sometimes hear my daughter whistling or singing tunes she's heard me play on the dulcimer. She might be the only teenager who regularly whistles O'Carolan melodies while playing with her dog. whistle dog1

My son avoided my dulcimers for years, but not my guitars. While in college he decided to venture in to the mountain dulcimer world. I bought him a Folkcraft and he still plays it occasionally. He has even uses it in his work. You never know when the seed you planted will grow and bloom.

Kids are like that. If their parent does something, they often equate it as something for 'old people'. bigsmile If one plays music in the home, children will grow up with music hard wired into their soul, and that will manifest itself in various good ways later in life. :)

Hi @irene. That dulcimer was a good lesson in patience for my daughter. We ordered it and David was really busy, so it took like a year for it to come. We were both so excited when it arrived. She was playing the piano at the time and picked up a few tunes on the dulcimer really quickly. But she never really took to it. She decided it was an "old person's instrument." Every now and then she plays Liza Jane or Mississippi Sawyer just to show that she still remembers how.

Thanks, @robin-thompson. I took that picture of Bubbles the day the octave dulcimer by David Beede arrived. It's hard to believe how long ago that was!
