Now you have my attention with this. I will make one if it's the last thing I do. Just love it JC. Love the simplicity, the sound. Bet we could string up a bowed saw to use as a bow, about 8" long.
Hi James, was your dad a miner? lol, you sure do dig 'em out !!! Thank you for taking the trouble to listen, the tune was the very first played on the box, and it shows ! Wasonly todaytrying tohave a 'clearout' of unwanted stuff on this computer (just realised how slow it is) and found some bettertunes that I once meant to post, but never did,so I hear your suggestion to 'do more withthe TMB' and will try topost something soon. (How abouta simple 'Amazing Grace' ?)
Hey, John--this video comes up with your latest Bonny at Morn video--had never played it for some reason. I hope that that is Tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera)--the state tree of my home state of Indiana! Looks like a single board across the bottom, so I am thinking that it is. I am always amazed at the small world effect of FOTMD.
I'm excited and happy for you and your newest musical instrument. I'm sure that in hearing the music, you have gotten a great reward from the build. The satisfaction does a body good doesn't it. You've got me itching to try to build a TMB for myself. Thanks for sharing both the build and the finished dulcimer.

If it leans, it may distort, time to do something with it, if it's only to place it under some weight!glad to have you with us Bill,JohnH

Thanks Robin, congrats on your PVMB! I made one very similar last year, loved the mellow sound that it made, but have since lost it to my son. I enjoyed hearing the 'different sound of Robin' i.e. using your fingers, can we have some more?all the bestJohnH

Hey John,That's excellent!!!!! What a lovely instrument - it has got "the" sound. You should have folk musicians queing at your door to get the chance to record on that beauty.

The tinwork is just wonderful. I would love to hear how you did the bends. I have never seen a written description of how people bend the tin for TMBs. It can't be easy to do. Also wondering what kind and thickness of tin you used?It sounds really rich and full, too.And you do a great version of "All the good times ...".Agree with Strumelia! I think it would be a great addition to dulcimer knowledge if you talked about how you built it, what problems you encountered. A video or a page on the builder's group would be wonderful to see.I have a dozen more questions, but will hold them for now.

John Henry, that is just wonderful!!What a gorgeous box, and how very great it sounds. Was it very hard for you to make? What were the challenges in making it, if any?You should start a thread about your experiences in making this instrument.

Like Bobby said-- "old timey"! Looks and sounds that way. I'd love to get my hands on it and play a tune! Those wire frets would make for tricky noting, methinks. The string gauges you've chosen give a well-balanced sound, John Henry.
Thanks for watching Cynthia ! Yes, I have been surprised by the variety of sound that can be coaxed from it !

well, on my mom's dads side of the family, they were Welch, and miners, so I guess that qualifies lol. Amazing Grace I bet would sound great on it

Looking through your videos, and caught this. Great rendition! And you really need to do more with the TMB again
That was a long time ago, and its first outing! It really wants doing again in order to do the instrument justice, lol.
Thanks anyway Strumelia !
John
Always nice to listen to again....
