I'm going to restate what Lynne said, I love the phrasing and delicacy. The tune simply lifts off the strings and flows or flys away.. Truly lovely. thanks for posting it.

It has some pickup issues with a lot sizzle. Everytime I go somewhere to perform they always say get another one. It is the perfect dulcimer and I've played nothing else since 1999. I ordered this maple for a performance dulcimer and paid way too much for the inlay, prideful purchase, and I've never liked it. The bass string was thumpy. So I went dn to a 23 and it is better but just not the same.
Nice tune and playing Linda! What happened for your one dulcimer to be in the dulcimer hospital?

Ty Dusty... Phrasing is hard to teach, but a student said something to me one day that helped meas a teacher. Having played flute since 4 th grade I have been directed by many conductors . They often direct with much "Rubato" which simply means not playing in a strict timing. My student thought everything had to be played strictly like it was written. When I told her to hold a certain phrase , then shorten the next note she said that wasn't possible cause it messed up the timing. But if you hold a note a little longer than the time it's given it's like a conductor using his baton to suspend everything till he is ready to continue , then the timing resumes. Hymns are easy if you sing them in your head while you play and play what you hear in your head. Irish music is really hard and something you have to feel. I usually try to find some Irish person or group playing the song I want to learn. Then I listen over and over because the phrasing is never what it appears in the music. There is often 4 quarter notes but when they sing or play it their phrase may end on the the 3 rd one and then pick up again making that note really a dotted quarter and the last note an eighth. It's crazy but rubato is the difference when you hear 2 people play the exact song on the piano . One is interesting and draws you in while the other is techniquly correct it doesn't sound as gd to the ear. Lol I'm just crazy I play with my eyes close and let the music flow where it feels right. I saw a special on A classical cello player and he said " when your eyes are engaged your ears and your heart are not. We need to listen more and get off that paper soon as possible.
Does it make sense to say that you play with soft conviction? There is such subtlety in your phrasing but also purpose and confidence. I'm continuously amazed by your patient but precise touch on the fretboard.
I think you have played me to sleep, too, or at least your recordings have.
At least that new strang will keep you from walkin' by and kickin' the thang!
