johnp ! Not too many I would guess, I don't mind doing it that way so long as I am able, been doing it since 1948 (less a couple of years for Nat, Service ) I enjoy the fresh, clean smell of shavings, the noise made as the shaving curls off resulting from a sharp plane and a responsive piece of timber, and seeing that full width shaving instead of bits and pieces, ( you'll know what I mean !), and it might just reduce the old waist line a fraction as well.
Randall, if you are dealing with Bill from I............ he will be looking out for you, I got timber from him last year, it was a dream to work, and a TMB just sorta grew out of the pile he sent me. As for "happy planing thoughts" I would'nt dream of telling you 'how to do it', but a sharp iron , a flat work surface, and a secured workpiece makes life easier?. Keep us posted on progress. The bowed psaltry is a bit of a side issue from the start point of the project, its the result of cutting the stuff for a scheitholt which is 'work in progress'. I am not sure that making and playing make perfect bed partners tho', I managed to get a massive splinter under a thumb nail yesterday (all say aaaah!)
