This Northumbrian traditional song/pipe tune from the playing of John Shaw (tho I haste to add he does'nt play it like this !!!) Here played noter/drone, on my little 'ole homemade diatonic ,meantone fretted, 26" VSL,Mahogany, C...
Hello David, thank you for listening ! Just lately I have been a little pressed for time, and 'playing on the fly' as it were. So far asI recollect my son had been playing that instrument priorto me picking it up to 'clear away'. tho' as you have probably have found out , its hard not to caress the strings before you do that thing !! Anyway, having picked the dulcimer up,the tune came into my head, the tuning seemed to suitit ! On checking subsequent to recording, the tuning was as near as damit F'C'C', hope this is of some use ?
Thanks for the comment David, will certainly give your suggestion a go ! While I used to play bothJamie Allen and Herd on The Hill on my HD, I never did link 'em together !!!
Thank you David, only just picked up on your comment (did you ever master 'Salmon Tails' ? )
And Kevin, thanks for asking about Mary, tho' she will never be as she was, things have stabilised to a certain extent, and I have sortahoned our 'systems' a little, got some help here and there, hence being ableto find some time for this tune. Still all a bit hit and miss, can't settle to do 'me' things forextended periods , but better thanbefore !!!
Thank you all so much for your very welcome comments! On Thurs. I was able to find time to play the dulcimer 'with intent' for the first time since Christmas, and on impulse searched out the Zoom thingy, recorded the tune , and renewed my 'You Tube membership' all within the space of an hour and a half. What I did'nt do was the ironing !!! Sorry about the shirt friends, relic from a previous dulcimer life , the old chair still serves, and Ken, I do so like 'bagpipe' tuning . May I also take just a moment to thank those who have shown interest in my 'adventures' of the last seven months, we shall never be back to normal, but things have improved a little. (Get your blood/calcium relationship checked out now and then ????)
Great to see/her you playing a little m/d n/d John Henry. I've missed you the most in the mornings....with the time difference here it was always interesting to see what you and your UK/European cohorts were talking about overnight.
Beautifully played my friend. Last time I heard Derwentwater's Farewell it was played on Northumbrian pipes in Northumbria. But, truth to tell, I like your rendition better.

Hi John Henry! Very nice playing, and very pretty dulcimer. And like JK, I even like the shirt! :)

Nice tune there John Henry.
Wonderful playing, shirt, and dulcimer! It's great to see you back at it! Should I mention the chair...???

Fantastic! Glad to see you haven't lost your touch. Pretty tune too
Good to see and hear you again. Lovely sound on that "little 'ole homemade" instrument there. Derwentwater's Farewell is a great song.
Just what I needed today--A John Henry video! Sounds great JH
Happy to hear you playing again!!! Love the sounds from your dulcimers....little old diatonic nuttin! They always sound so good!!
God to see you again my friend, and that was some mighty fine playing.
