The Traditional Appalachian Dulcimore Maker. I'm over 12 years of building and have completed over 250 instruments. I have studied the old masters and grow closer to the sharp iron and wood philosophy every day.

Dan there is no doubt that youare an accomplished builder and player, so may I ask what the 'Sharp Iron and Wood' philosophy entails?
Just curious, is that a playable instrument that you carry on your shoulder in your profile?
Hey, Dan! Hope things are going well for you over in TN. Still busy here despite COVID. Lots going on! You?
More soon,
Stay well,
Doug
Thanks, Dan. After my initial confusion I figured it out. This is my first dulcimer with the smaller fret board. I have 3 other dulcimers. Just didn't expect D to go to D# then to E.
Hello, Neighbor! I have been to the museum many times; I used to take my children when they were young.
Dan, thanks for the info on The Great Appalachian Fiddle Convention. I'll have to see if I can make that. Do you have any idea about what time of day the dulcimer competition is?
Really enjoy your audios Dan, love how you play "Just as I am."
Thank you Lexie!
Hi Dan. Just found out about Hindman. Sure wish I could!!!! But will be up here in Northern KY preparing farm for winter. Must put it on schedule for next year. Will check in for your pictures and activities. Enjoy all in Hindman!
I was a great time! Loved spending time with Don Pedi and Carrie Norris!
Dan, I'm intrigued by the sound of your nylon-strung dulcimer. Did you just put nylon on a dulcimer or did you build with a mind that it'd be strung with nylon?
I hope you and your loved ones have had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!
Thanks!
Yes Robin it was made for the Nylgut strings. They have a very different dynamic to them verses the music wire. The action needs to be very high for the slack nature of them and intonation is very different due to the diameter.
Dan, your "transitional piece" looks and sounds great! The banjo-y, plunk-y vibe is really something special. And the slides can be heard, too. Really nice!
Thank you!
Dan you responded to a problem I have with my dulcimer's tuning pegs and you said you would look at it and quote me a price. I tried to email you but a problem with the message. If you can tell me when you are available and where you are my husband and I could bring it to you. Thank you and Happy New Year
Sorry, I live in Tennessee now!
Hi Dan, I sure wish you'd make another audio recording of the big box dulcimer you made... do you still have it, and can you record another tune for us on it?
Will do!
Sorry folks, I just scrolled down the page for the first time! I will answer each one, better late than never I suppose.......
