JH, you make Goin' to Boston look so effortless! Such a sweet sound from your dulcimer (if that's your home-made jobbie I'll like three please!) :) Glad you brought my attention to this video as it was posted before my time a FOTMD and I would have missed a gem. Interestingly, your dulcimer has a lot of sound similarities to my Jeffries. They could be cousins.

Nice playing. I'm glad to see you're back at it! You add some nice syncopated rhythms toward the end there.

Great playing John !
Hello Sam, A Happy New Year to you, and thank you for your comment on my 'Going to Boston' I am glad that it gave you pleasure, I was not entirely convinced that it was worth posting; when I play this tune on the Hammered Dulcimer I seem to be able to get a lot more 'bounce' to it, more danceable?, hence my comment "pedestrian"!
Just had a look at your side bending arrangement, would be interested in seeing pics of a finished instrument built using this method.
my regards

WOW! I think if I wanted to introduce a newcomer to music of the mountain dulcimer, this is the piece I'd choose. It embodies the style so inherent to the tradition of dulcimer music. Played beautifully with an exemplary exhibition of technique with the instrument, quill and noter. I enjoyed this so much. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful, John. Let's have none of this 'pedestrian finished article' nonsense! Played with great soul and old-time lonesome feeling!

Your play of this tune carries such sweetness, John! Like Strumelia, I wish I could play it as finely as you do. Watching your video made my day. :)
Thank you so much for sharing this with us!Wish i could play it as nicely as you! (I just 'accompany' others who carry the main burden of playing the melody)
So good to have you back playing and recording for us all again.

Great job John Henry, you did great with the quill noter and pick. Glad to hear you're back playing and getting stronger.
Thanks John, I have been looking for this song to share with my students. Delightful.

Here ya go. This one has since been finished, but this photo shows the bent sides pretty well.
